'Men and women came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars.'
F. Scott Fitzgerald; Great Gatsby
Last Saturday I was invited to an amazing event with Ladbrokes Poker at the DoubleTree Hilton in the heart of Leeds city centre for an evening of glitz, glamour and a little bit of gambling. The theme was Great Gatsby and the game was poker.
We were all shown how to play the game (I didn't need much teaching, I use to play it in school with my mates to pass the time during free periods in sixth form- I have an excellent poker face...) and given £3,000 in fake money to pay for the ultimate prize. The goal was to be the last one standing and win £500 of real money for our chosen charity.
Naturally as bloggers we well and truly embraced ourselves in the theme (what do you think of my outfit? Do check out my Instagram for other pictures), I may have thrown myself into a bit too much and spent my afternoon watching The Great Gatsby film over and over again to try and perfect the 1920s accent.
What I really should have been watching is Casino Royal (oh Daniel Craig...) as I was in the middle of the pack of people who had to leave the game due to loosing chips. But it was great hanging out with other bloggers in a more interment setting. I also want to thank Search Labs for some great candied shots of us (including the one above of us engrossed in the game...) Finally a thank you to Ladbrokes of the invitation to use a lovely event!
P.S: This may be a little boring but I feel it needs to be said. Gambling can be fun and exciting but please, always do it responsibly. There's no fun in going overboard with it and risking everything to achieve nothing in the end. If you are unsure or need any help, please visit Gamble Aware for more information.
