The Black Swan is located on Call Lane and is fairly new to the Leeds scene. I say fairly new, it's been around for a year and a bit now, but still has the ability to entice you to come in from the cold and settle down for a good drink and even better food.
I was luckily enough to be invited to a new menu tasting event last week, to see what new dishes had been added to their A La Carte Menu. Along with some friendly bloggers that I know (Ally from Digital Diva and Laura from A Forte of Fashion) we headed on upstairs in the establishment ready to taste some yummy food...
We tried a few starters, Leek and Pearl Barley Risotto, Venison Capraccio, Salmon and Crab Scotch Egg and Duck OXO Cube. My personal favourites were the venison capraccio and salmon and crab scotch egg- both delicious and delicate.
Next there were a few mains for us to try out, starting with the Pan Fried Seabass with butternut squash puree, roasted squash, baby leek and mushroom filled pasta. I fell in love with the fish, it was gorgeous and cooked to perfection.
Next we tried Pork Belly, with rib and black pudding croquette, braised cheek, carrot puree, roast chantennay carrot and mustard jus. It was the first time I fell in love with pork belly, it was smooth and just melted in your mouth.
For vegetarians, you can try either the Spiced Courgette and Tomato Lasagne; courgette and pumpkin seed salad and vegetable crisps, or Spinach and Ricotta Gnocchi, with Jerusalem artichoke puree and artichoke crisps. The gnocchi was smooth and delicious! I would highly recommend trying it out!
For desert you can try a number of options; Spiced Rum Poached Pineapple (the best and so boozy!!), Stewed Rhubarb and Ginger Creme Brulee, Dark Chocolate Tart or some Northern Bloc Ice Cream, which is some of the best ice cream you will find up North here.
Overall it was a great night with great company. I am already planning my next visit to get my hands on the fish and the boozy pineapple.
